We’ve written this to be readable. That’s unusual for a privacy policy. You’re welcome.

This policy explains what personal information Frekl collects, how we use it, and what rights you have. It applies to all interactions with frekl.com.au and any communications between you and us.

This policy is issued in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).


What personal information we collect

We collect information you give us directly and some information that comes in passively through the technology running this site. Here’s the full picture:

  • Identity and contact details: your name, email address, phone number, and delivery address when you place an order, create an account, or contact us.
  • Payment information: payment is processed via Shopify Payments and/or third-party payment processors. We do not store your full card number — that sits with the payment processor.
  • Order history: what you’ve ordered, when, and how often.
  • Marketing preferences: whether you’ve opted in to marketing emails, and how you interact with them (opens, clicks).
  • Communications: anything you send us by email or through a contact form.
  • Usage data: how you use this website — pages visited, time on site, browser type, device, IP address — collected passively via cookies and analytics tools.
  • Reviews: if you submit a product review, that content and your display name are collected by our reviews platform.

How we collect it

Most of it you give us directly — by placing an order, signing up, contacting us, or submitting a review. The rest comes in passively through the tools that run this website (Shopify, analytics, cookies). We’ll cover those below.


Why we collect it and how we use it

We collect personal information to run a functioning online store and talk to our customers. Specifically:

  • Fulfilling your order: processing payment, arranging delivery, sending tracking info, and handling returns or queries.
  • Your account: maintaining your account, subscription, and order history.
  • Customer service: responding to your messages and resolving issues.
  • Marketing: sending you emails about Frekl, new products, and promotions — but only if you’ve opted in. (More on opting out below.)
  • Analytics and improvement: understanding how people use the site so we can make it better.
  • Fraud prevention and legal compliance: keeping the store secure and meeting our legal obligations.

We do not sell your personal information. We do not use it for purposes unrelated to running Frekl.


Who we share it with

We share your information with third parties only where necessary to run the business. Those parties are:

  • Shopify: our e-commerce platform. They store and process order, account, and payment data on our behalf. Shopify’s privacy practices are at shopify.com/legal/privacy.
  • Payment processors: Shopify Payments and any connected payment gateways handle card data. They are PCI-DSS compliant.
  • Freight and logistics providers: we share your name and delivery address with our carriers to fulfil your order.
  • Email marketing platform: if you’ve opted in to marketing, your email address is held in our email marketing platform so we can send you things worth reading.
  • Reviews platform (Judge.me): if you submit a review, your review content and display name are processed by Judge.me. Their privacy policy is available at judge.me/privacy.
  • Analytics platforms: we may use Google Analytics and/or Meta Pixel to understand website traffic and advertising performance. These tools collect anonymised or pseudonymised usage data.

We do not share your personal information with any other third parties without your consent, unless required by law.


International data transfers

Some of our third-party service providers (including Shopify) store and process data on servers located outside Australia, including in the United States and other countries. These transfers are necessary to operate the store. Where your data is transferred internationally, we take reasonable steps to ensure it is handled in a manner consistent with the Australian Privacy Principles.


Cookies and analytics

This website uses cookies — small files stored on your device that help the site function and allow us to understand how it’s being used. Cookies we use include:

  • Essential cookies: required for the store to work (cart, session, security).
  • Analytics cookies: help us understand traffic and usage patterns. We use Google Analytics for this. The data is aggregated and anonymised.
  • Marketing cookies: used by platforms like Meta and Google to measure the effectiveness of advertising, if you’ve consented.

You can manage cookie preferences through your browser settings. Disabling certain cookies may affect site functionality.


Marketing emails

We send marketing emails only to people who have opted in. Every email includes an unsubscribe link. Click it and you’re off the list — no re-engagement emails, no last-chance messages. Just off.

You can also update your email preferences any time by logging into your account or emailing hello@frekl.com.au.

Transactional emails (order confirmations, shipping updates) are sent regardless of marketing preferences because they’re about your order.


Data security

We take reasonable steps to protect your personal information from misuse, interference, loss, and unauthorised access. Our website runs on Shopify’s platform, which includes industry-standard security measures including SSL encryption.

No data transmission over the internet is completely secure. If you have concerns about a specific interaction, get in touch.


Your rights

Under the Australian Privacy Principles, you have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you.
  • Correct information that is inaccurate, out of date, incomplete, or misleading.
  • Complain if you believe we’ve mishandled your personal information (see below).

To make a request, email hello@frekl.com.au with “Privacy Request” in the subject line. We will respond within a reasonable timeframe (typically 30 days). There is no charge for access requests in most circumstances.

In some circumstances we may decline an access or correction request — for example, where providing access would unreasonably impact another person’s privacy, or where we are required by law to retain information. If we decline, we will tell you why.


Children

Frekl is a non-alcoholic product suitable for all ages, but this website is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.


How long we keep your data

We keep your personal information for as long as we need it to provide services to you and meet our legal obligations — generally for the duration of your customer relationship plus up to seven years for financial records (as required by Australian law). When we no longer need it, we delete or de-identify it.


Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we’ll update the “last updated” date at the top. Material changes will be communicated by email where practical.


How to make a complaint

If you have a concern about how we’ve handled your personal information, start with us. Email hello@frekl.com.au with the details. We’ll take it seriously and get back to you within 30 days.
